I am much more than just number 3404693. My life began at the monstrous beagle factory (MBR, Rose, NY) on April 1, 2017. I am 100% beagle, bred specifically for animal testing. For five years, I was part of big pharma research at Charles River Labs in Worcester, Massachusetts. I don’t know exactly what they tested on me—most likely drugs for humans or medications for animals—but I was one of the lucky ones to retire.
After my time in the lab, I was released into the wonderful vet tech program at UMass Amherst/Mt. Ida Campus. During my time there, the vet tech students treated me with so much kindness. They gave me thorough exams, cleaned my pearly whites, trimmed my nails, and even put a silly cone on me—which I definitely did not like! At the end of the semester, a dozen of my classmates and I were adopted into our forever homes.
Now, I’ve settled into a warm and loving home. My absolute favorite activities include chasing ducks, protecting my mom from Amazon drivers, patrolling the yard with my nose, basking in the sun, barking at boats and jet skis, hunting rabbits and squirrels, and visiting my cousins (both human and canine).
My mom calls me a hero, but honestly, I’m just happy to be free. All I want is to be loyal to my family and get as many belly rubs as I can!
I am more than just number 3404693—I am a survivor.
